The Simple Man Who Sought Simple People

Jesus was a simple man. He taught his commandment of simplicity. He codified all the laws of Judaism into a simple “Commandment of Love”. He went in search of simple people.

He was very simple. Anyone could approach him easily; even little children. In fact, he called the downtrodden and people who were oppressed. He was so simple that he cured the sicknesses of poor people who were neglected and uncared. He consoled the afflicted and healed their minds. He was a simple man – in all terms of simplicity! He was the simple Jesus!

He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth; nor searched for people of riches. He was a simple man of simple qualities.  He was a simple man who sought for simple people

– He was Jesus, a simple Jesus!

Jesus the simple man

He was a simple man of simple mind and simple qualities which made him approachable by anybody. He was not Jesus-plus, nor had he any complicated formula – He had only one simple formula – the formula of LOVE!

Jesus simplified the code of laws

The laws of Judaism were so complicated and strict. Their law forced men to throw stones at women caught in adultery, without considering anything that led to it. When the law insisted “Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth,” Jesus advocated them the treatment of love. He said, “But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also."(Matthew 5: 38-39) His teachings were as simple as to be taught to children.

The Pharisees,

scribes and elders of people were criticizing that Jesus was so simple and lenient that he allowed his disciples to “pick some heads of grain and eat them” on a Sabbath day to satiate their hunger. He pointed out the greatest attribute of God by saying, “If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.”

Jesus simplified the relationship with God

Jesus introduced God to humanity as the most loving Father. To the Jewish people God had been a God of fear. The Jewish people believed that they have a covenant relationship with God, by which they must obey the laws set by God with utmost care to “the smallest letter or the least stroke of the pen”. But Jesus highlighted the great love of God, greater than the laws of the covenant. When people were suffering with illnesses and problems, Jesus advised them to take love as the greatest yardstick of judgment.

All the teachings of Jesus can simply put into the word “LOVE”. Yes, Jesus was a simple man of love!
