Do Not Be Discouraged By Smearing

God’s men are easily mocked at. When they advice people to follow the righteous way they turn against those who advise them and mock at them. They ill-treat them and even kill them. Gospel suggests to be patient and pray for them.

The season of Lent of this year is coming to the end. You have been trying your best to follow the commandments of God. There are occasions when others mock at you for following the way of God. God gives you strength through his words.

When you are sure that you are walking in the path of God you need not be discouraged by the smearing or insult from others. You may feel that others work to undermine or mock you. Do not be put down when people are out to get you. Remember, most of the men of God

were also treated like that. You can find the Heroes of faith like Jeremiah and David were also mocked, threatened and betrayed.

Jeremiah’s reaction

What did Jeremiah do when he was mocked and ill-treated? He was given the task of proclaiming prophecies regarding God’s judgment. He had to address his friends and people of his country. But they mocked at him. They put him in prison threatened to kill him. He invoked God to give him strength. He trusted in God and entrusted all to him. Although it may seem to curse them, he blames himself for the task he had undertaken. He pleads God for them. God heard his prayer and comforted Jeremiah.

Reaction of Jesus

Jesus was mocked and smeared. He was ill-treated in every way. He was

accused and was punished with the death of a cross. But Jesus was doing only good things for others. He preached the commandment of love and he showed it in his own life. He said, “I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." (Matthew 5: 44-45)

Jesus showed the example of love

Jesus loved those who hated him and mocked at him. He prayed for them. Even when he was hanging on the cross, he prayed for them an asked for his mercy. He pleaded for them saying, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." (Luke 23: 34)

We shall trust in God

When we are bullied, smeared or mocked for following the commandments of God, we should not be discouraged in any way. We should not get angry over others. We entrust everything to God and pray for them.
